'Ticket To Ride' Review
Ticket To Ride is a game about claiming train routes on the map of United States to fulfill the train destination tickets that the player has. The game mechanic is very simple, and the game is fun and challenging.
Gameplay Brief Overview
The gameplay revolves around claiming train routes to fulfill the destinations stated on the train tickets. At the start of the game, each player picks a number of train destination tickets and decide which ones to keep. On each turn, the player can either claim a train route, pick up 2 train cards, or draw new train destination tickets. To claim a route, the player needs certain number of train tickets so he can use them to place the train miniatures on the board. When a train route is claimed, depending on the number of trains used, the player is awarded points with higher points for longer chain of trains. Fulfilling the train destination ticket also gives points to the player. However, at the end of the game, for any ticket not fulfilled, the corresponding points on the ticket cards will be deducted. The goal is be the player with the most points by fulfilling as many tickets as you can. Bonus points are awarded to the player with the longest route.
My Thoughts On The Game
I have played the online version about 50 times before getting the board game version for the board game club. The impression I received from first time players are mostly positive. Even though some said that the game gave them lots of pressure, they still find the game fun enough to warrant another round. Others simply want to try it again and hopefully win the game. For a game that caters to both young and old, male and female, this will always be one of the games that I introduce to anyone, anytime.
